Healthy Snack Review: Power Pop Popcorn
I was as skeptical as any that something like Popcorn – bringing to mind giant bags of butter and salt or candy coated boxes with prizes in them – could ever be seen as truly healthy or sensible. Sure, there are microwaveable varieties that are low calorie, but they usually taste like cardboard or nothing at all if you get lucky.
Power Pop Popcorn comes in small snack sized bags, so there is no worry for those who have a tough time with portion control, and comes in several interesting flavors. I had the pleasure of first trying Caramel and Chocolate Caramel, which were both delicious.
On my way to work the other day, I grabbed a random bag to go, so I could snack in the car. I happened to grab the Lemon Meringue flavor, which bummed me out a little at first (because it just sounds odd for a popcorn flavor, and I was looking forward to some guilt free morning chocolate), but it tasted better than expected. Someone looking for a lighter tasting snack, who isn’t a sugar addict or chocoholic would probably find it refreshing.
The important thing is to realize that Power Pop Popcorn is a great alternative to junk food, or energy bars that fall short in the nutrition and taste departments respectively. Each bag contains 8-10 grams of protein, 17grams of carbohydrates (none from sugar), and just 11mg sodium. That nutritional value alone is more impressive than some post-exercise protein supplements – never mind the fact that you are actually eating popcorn instead of a dried out “bar”.
If you are looking for an alternative to traditional (bland) ‘healthy’ snacks, or want to rid yourself of the guilt that comes along with chowing down on fried, sugar coated, or salt covered chips, give Power Pop Popcorn a try.
