So, February came and went, and I was so busy that I missed “Heart Month”. The American Heart Association had many program’s Like the infamous “go Red” campaign, and as I watched the news anchors wear red, and even my favorite TV shows incorporating the theme, I skipped out on checking on my own health. We are so focused on February being the season of Valentine’s Day but, what better way to show the ones you love how much you care than by checking on the state of your heart. I guess all the heart health promotions finally got to me, because I finally took the time to read the book “Heart Smart for Black Woman and Latinas”.
This book not only gives information, but it provides an easy three step plan and a 5 week program that will lead to a healthier heart and lifestyle specifically for woman. The book includes information about diet, exercise and the important doctor- patient relationship. I found this book easy to read, and I felt that it had valuable information that I could incorporate in my life right now. The goals were attainable and practical. The book gives very simple steps that can have a big pay off when you are a healthier woman.
This book should be should be mandatory reading for anyone who is a Black or Latina woman, or anyone who works with this population. This book deals with the unique cultural and genetic challenges that this select community of woman may face.
Don’t wait for certain month to get heart healthy. Start now by reading this book and become more informed about your heart, your health and your life.
