Poetry: The Spoonie Career

This month we had a contest and asked some of our readers, members and volunteers to write a creative peice about What has BYDLS and “the spoon theory” meant to you?
The short essay was written by one of our readers.

The Spoonie Career
One for you, one for me.
Shall I make you a cup of tea?
With milk? And do you like it sweet?
I’ll sit down while you sign my sheet.
One for me, one for you.
A chocolate bar will see me through…
Deep breath, smile leave the car:
“Morning, let’s see how you are.”
Stop for lunch, to gain one more,
Even though I’m a little sore.
Cook a few dinners, then home I go,
To rest up for tonight, I know.
Replenished, out I go again,
Breathe, and smile through the pain.
Just a few tonight and then
I can crawl back home again.
A weekend off is now in sight,
Curl up and have an early night.
Spend next day watching cartoons…
At least I’m paid to hand out spoons!
