Healthy Eating Month: Pick up a Book Instead of a Snack!

I find I eat more when I’m bored. Or when I’m depressed. Most time it has nothing to do with hunger, it’s just a nervous reaction. So find what works for you. For me, nothing is more relaxing than reading a bit and have a cup of herbal tea or some fruit juice.

Another thing that keeps my mind busy is crocheting. Maybe you knit, scrapbook, work on plastic canvas, cross stitch or some other craft, but keeping those fingers busy keeps them out of food!
You can also cut up carrots, celery, maybe some radishes and then take them out and snack on them when you’re hungry. Eat a banana – it’s full of potassium and fills up the gap in your belly!
Think fruit or vegetables, stay away from the carbs.
Take a short walk if you’re able. Work in your garden. The whole point is to get away from the thought of eating and fill that time with something that is more rewarding and makes you feel better.
Now me, my first choice is books. When I get upset, I grab a book of short stories, some chilled water, and let me read as a treat.
I installed a new printer this afternoon and was having an awful time – and then found I’d chosen the wrong port for the printer. Well, duh! So I’ve conquered the operator error and my new printer works just fine!
And I have book sitting right here and I’m going to read now…
It’s addicting, you know.
