Yes, July 27th is my birthday! It is also the 7 year anniversary of ButYouDontLookSick.com

Hi Everyone,

It’s me, Christine. So many of you have been emailing, or twittering to ask when my birthday is… so here yes, my birthday is 7/27!

It is also the 7 year anniversary of butyoudontlooksick.com. My brother gave me the website 7 years ago as a birthday present. It started as 1 page that I made myself in frontpage, that I was using to update family and friends on my health condition. I then started to upload my writing. I had NO idea what an unbelievable journey I was about to begin.

7 years later, what started as a fun hobbie to do when I didnt feel good as turned into a recognized brand. A fully functioning website with updates at least 5 days a week. An online store, active message boards, a FREE newsletter reaching thousands around the world, a twitter community with the #spoonie hastag, a HUGE facebook community with over 16,000 fans!!!! I now have begun speaking engagements and have gotten to meet so many of the butyoudontlooksick.com family. What a crazy, wonderful and amazing journey it has been. I can’t wait to see where else this experience takes me… one little spoonful at a time. 🙂

Thank you to all of you who have volunteered for bydls.com through the years. To my message board admins, to our volunteer writers. You all have done so much to help us grow.

To the readers and “spoonies” of butyoudontlooksick.com, thank you for reading our stories, coming back for more and sharing our links with your friends. I truly can not thank you the reader enough.

Keep watching our site for info on celebration activities. We will be having an “after party” for the anniversary which will include a blogging contest, photo contest, and twitter/ facebook status update contest. yay for prizes and more surprises along the way!

With love and spoons,

-Christine

  • Happy birthday Christine!
…and thanks to your bro. for giving you this tool aka website to pass on the Spoon Theory and so much more.
The Spoon Theory has helped many people; those without limitations and those with, to comprehend in a clear manner how fatigue and choices we must make daily affect us.
    Thanks for using your giftedness!
Live long and prosper as you are able and may God bless you richly for touching the heartstrings of many others to “GET IT.”

    Happy Day Ms Christine.
I never had the courage to tell ANYONE the ‘dreadful truth’ as a family member called it (others still call it bull-something, but that’s all okay now! 🙂 Because of you my life has changed drastically. For the better. I am privleged to be here, read your articles, laugh cry and share with all the other precious Spoonies. “Thank-You’ doesnt seem enough; but here it is. THank-you, many Happy Returns; Love, Spoons, and Congratulations.

Happy birthday and congratulations! Thank you for all your hard work.

  • So grateful for this website. You have touched so many lives through this website and probably many more to come. When this illness first came into my life, i was angry, confused, and frustrated, but i believe that we all have a certain purpose in life. You may not have picked it to be this way,but you have provided a place for spoonies and others to have an outlet. Makes the journey alot easier and not so lonely. Thanks

    Christine:
You will never believe the impact reading your “Spoon Theory” has done for me. My daughter, Carly, who has had Crohn’s disease for 16 years, (another auto-immune disease) shared with me on Sunday morning in August of 2009. In all these years I have never read anything that explains it better. Thanks for helping care givers, familes and friends to have an easier understanding of what it is like living with such diseases.
Your story is truly a blessing! May each and everyone who has these same symptoms find an abundance of spoons!
    Love, Mary Jo
