5 years, what an achievement. So many websites, or message boards don’t make it to such a prestigious milestone, which just goes to show, what a wonderful place ButYouDontLookSick.com really is.
I read the Spoon Theory after a friend of mine gave me the link and I immediately joined the boards on December 12th 2004. We both had Fibro, she had many other invisible illnesses too, but reading the Spoon Theory finally made our illnesses make sense, to “normal” people. I remember joining the message boards, when they were just 2 weeks old! There were only a few of us in those days. If you posted a message, you might have got a reply before the day was out. We formed some pretty close friendships. Catdelouise was one of the first people i really got to know well. Followed by Sarge ( joephlebietz) Who can’t make it onto the boards much any more. Ruby, Linz and Kristina my little ballerina and LindaK . So many friends that have become more than names on a message board. I actually joined the boards before i read the homepage regularly.
As in life so many people have come and gone from the boards. Some come back, some we never see again. But they all impact your life in one way or another. I remember how honoured i was that Christine asked me to become a message board host, I had been a member for a few months, but I was very actively involved. Then i was given the amazing honour of being asked to be an Administrator, i can’t express in words how that made me feel. I also can’t tell you how much i love my job here. I call it a job, but it’s not like work, it’s like coming home to my slippers, my fuzzy blankie and some of my best friends.
To Christine, My friend, I can do nothing more than say a huge thank you to you and your family for trusting me, and for giving me my “home”. Thank you for being there for us all, for giving us all a place we feel safe and loved. The loving supportive family you wanted to create, has grown beyond all dreams. Gone are the days when there might be 3 new posts a day, and here are the days where there are 3 “pages” of posts.
Congratulations on all you achieved.
Happy Birthday to “ButYouDon’tLookSick.com?”
