Contest Entry: Thanks For The Spoons!

This month we had a contest and asked some of our readers, members and volunteers to write a creative peice about What has BYDLS and “the spoon theory” meant to you?
This entry is by Sheila Talley

Thanks For The Spoons!
I knew there had to be a word,
A name for what I felt
Some way to explain to all my friends
Why I was off the shelf.
“I’m out of gas,” “Too pooped to pop”
Would only make them curious
A new excuse for another missed date
Might really make them furious.
It’s hard to explain I’m made of mud
Hardening into cement
When I look just like I did before
This disease my energy spent.
But then one day a friend sent me
The words I long had sought
“The Spoon Theory,” the words that fell
Like teardrops on my heart.
I sat and cried, read and reread
And forwarded it to a few
My explanations to folks from now on
Would contain something totally new!
To have a way to finally
Explain to all my friends
How something so invisible
All my fun could suddenly end.
A spoon! It could have easily been
A knife, or fork, or napkin
Whatever the reason she chose the spoon
I’m grateful for it happening!
