ButYouDontLookSick.com announces its 7 year anniversary “after party” celebration

New York, NY, July 28, 2010 – ButYouDontLookSick.com, an online magazine for those dealing with “invisible” chronic illnesses announces its 7 year anniversary celebration.  The site, founded and maintained by Christine Miserandino, from Long Island, NY offers both the newly diagnosed and long time sufferers of chronic illnesses an online community that provides tips, product reviews, articles and essays and a support message board.

The mission of ButYouDontLookSick.com is to help everyone with a chronic illness or invisible disability, in order for them to live their lives to the fullest and not feel isolated and alone. We believe that our medical circumstances have put us in a unique and understanding position, so that we can help each other through similar difficult times. We hope the information and community on our site can aid people in leading better lives through knowledge, networking, friendship and most of all support.

ButYouDontLookSick.com is the home of “The Spoon Theory”, a young woman’s explanation of what it feels like to live with Lupus.  In her story, Christine Miserandino explains how someone with a chronic illness makes choices everyday that a healthy person takes for granted.  “The Spoon Theory” has been featured in many health newsletters, magazines and support grounds.  The story has touched so many of the ButYouDontLookSick.com readers that they refer to each other as “Spoonies”.

The 7 year “After Party” Anniversary celebration will begin on the actual inaugural day of the website, July 27th and continue through until August 27th.  During this time, ButYouDontLookSick.com encourages members and visitors to submit entries to the “After Party” contests.  Available contests include: an “I Am A Spoonie” picture contest, where the public can send in photos of themselves holding a sign that simply tells the world that they are a “Spoonie”.  Prizes will be awarded in at least 4 different categories, including “Long Distance Spoonie”, “Celebrity Spoonie”, “Most Creative” and “Biggest Collection of Spoons”.

Also as a part of the celebration, ButYouDontLookSick.com will encourage all members to proudly post on their facebook and twitter accounts with a special chosen “key phrase” for the entire month, with a link to the site.  Five random winners will be selected and prizes will also be given. There also will be new essays, new items in our store, and more secret celebrations to come.

ButYouDontLookSick.com’s anniversary contests and events are anticipated to be a huge event with over 17,000 facebook fans from all over the world.  Recently, “The Spoon Theory” was translated into 5 different languages, branching out to an international audience.  The global impact of the website consists of fans from all over the world who get the article feed from the main site, along with over 3,000 recipients of the butyoudontlooksick.com daily email newsletter, 3,000 personal FB friends and over 2,000 Twitter followers.

ButYouDontLookSick.com has remained free since 2003.  Founder, Christine Miserandino, a Lupus patient, uses many mediums to spread the ButYouDontLookSick.com message; including public speaking, articles in newspapers and magazines, and television appearances.
