Product Review of OXO Good Grips Citrus Squeezer
We all want to get the most out of our citrus fruits, which usually means squishing them until we’ve gotten every drop of juice. Some people recommend that you microwave your lemon for a few moments or roll it on the counter,
but when it comes right down to it, you still need an effective way to remove the juice. An electronic juicer would work fine, but they aren’t cost effective if you only squeeze the occasional lemon. A traditional reamer is generally efficient, but it’s not an easy tool to use for those with exhaustion or joint issues, and it doesn’t catch the seeds. As it turns out, the newest product on the market has proven to be the most functional and intelligent.
Our family used to have a free standing juicer that required brute strength and a firm hand to twist out the juice, and though it did catch the seeds, it was a difficult task for someone with low energy, or poor dexterity. In the years since that juicer broke, we have employed the “fork in the lemon half, remove the seeds by hand” method. This, needless to say, is not the most productive way to juice a lemon.
We finally decided to cave in and buy a wooden, hand-held lemon reamer from the new kitchen store that just opened in town. Unfortunately, my dad phoned us from the store to say that he was really sorry, but he couldn’t find what we were looking for. They had this other thing though, something that looked like a garlic press, but for lemons. Would that do? Having recently seen something like that on TV being used for limes, we jumped at the idea.
Thus, the OXO Good Grips Citrus Squeezer found a place in our home. Made of aluminium, it’s lightweight and durable, with wide handles that have a no-slip coating for easy control. Most people could put half a lemon in and
have no trouble exerting enough pressure to remove all the juice and some of the oils, but for people with weaker hands, I recommend cutting your lemon into eighths and squishing the pieces one at a time. Small holes in the
head of the squeezer allow the juice to drip freely, while retaining the seeds and pulp for easy disposal. With a non-stick coating, you’ll get every drop of lemon or lime juice, with easy clean up afterwards. And, as an added bonus, it’s dishwasher safe.
I have found this product to be very useful and efficient. I recommend it to anyone who’s looking for an easy, low cost way to juice their citrus fruits.
