6 Great New Get Well Gift Ideas for Kids
September is “Get Better Get Well Gifts” month at ButYouDontLookSick.com! Let us help you find that perfect gift!
When kids are sick or in the hospital, what is a good gift? Flowers aren’t really appreciated by a 4 year old, and cards aren’t that great if you can’t read. We found some perfect get well gift ideas for any children in your life, who might need some extra love. Below we have listed some new get well gift ideas for kids.
1. oopdoo hug – What the heck is an oppdoo? That is what I said! An (oopdoo)Thug is an irresistibly soft fleece wrap in the shape of a bandage; the symbol of healing. This cute gift is perfect for a child who is sick, or under the weather. Since every kid wants a band aid for every boo boo, this is a fleece “bandage” for the boo boos you can’t see. This gift is perfect for stomach aches, headaches, or hospital stays. The pocket can hold a hot or cold pack and it is soft to sleep with. As usual, I love supporting work from home moms who make great products, you should too. You can buy these online for $18.99- $24.99 at oopdoohug.com
2. SendaBall.com – SENDaBALL, the creator of the original Greeting Ball, is a family run business based in Chicago. They were featured on The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, which is a TV show that features great inventions and ideas. For $19.95 you can get a “Bounce Back Soon” ball in red, yellow, or green. For a small additional fee they will ship out of the country. You can send easily right from your computer online. I loved the get well ball, but please know that they have other themes available like new baby, and birthday. The balls are sent fully inflated and are sent First Class Mail by the regular United States Postal Service. The balls are addressed by hand, stamped and mailed. Not in a box, no bubble wrap or string or tape, just the ball. I am listing this as a great get well gift item for kids because it is a ball and I figure that a child will play with the ball long after they are feeling sick. But I have to admit that I was laughing hysterically when I received a big green ball mixed in with my normal postal mail, newspaper and bills. I guess laughing is contagious, because my postman was laughing too.
3. A Stich’T quilted blanket. (stitcht.com) I do not know how to sew, and even if I did, I don’t know that I could be this creative. Luckily I found a company that creates for you! Stitcht.com takes your old T shirts and makes
them into a quilt blanket. I love the idea of taking your child’s favorite tees and making them into a blanket for when he or she doesn’t feel well. The blanket will have the softness of tee shirts, but with the added bonus of memories on the other side. Once I went to the site I saw that although I liked this as a get well gift, I knew this would also be a great gift for so many people. You can send in school sports tee shirts and give this as a graduation gift. You can save your baby’s clothes that are too darling to part with and make a “big girl” blanket. I have too many ideas to even type! This company makes quilt blankets, duvet covers, crib quilts and pillowcases. Since these are all handmade and obviously a lot of work, it can take 8-10 weeks for the finished product. Prices range from $70- $325 depending on size. This would be such a special and unique gift for anyone you love.
4. Piano Wizard Premier– If your child is stuck in bed with the flu, or is home sick, why not use their time to learn a new instrument? No fighting, no big bulky instruments, just a fun new way to learn. Use this forced (due to
sickness) in door time to learn something new. The Piano Wizard received many rave reviews and multiple awards. The product is available for both PC and MAC systems. The Piano Wizard products can be purchased as stand alone software or a software/keyboard bundle. They even have a special part of their website specifically designed for kids which features a demo version of the Piano Wizard educational software. With the Piano Wizard software, colored “notes” – disguised as colorful icons like dinosaur eggs or rocket ships – travel along a straight line upward toward the same colored key on the computer screen. The player then simply hits the same color key on their piano keyboard when the note reaches the colored piano keys on the screen. It is so simple, children as young as three can play Beethoven in minutes. I know this product may sound similar to other video games out there right now with guitars, etc. But if you really research those games, the focus is on winning and not learning real notes. Retails for $139.95 and comes with keyboard, cables and software.
5. Tamagotchi is a virtual reality pet stored in an egg shaped key chain. It is so perfect for travel, or to have a game that will occupy a patient in waiting rooms, doctor’s offices, etc. You can go online and build your family. It teaches kids how to take care of each other. You will need to play with it, feed it, etc. These toys sell for approx $16.99 and are a great distraction for kids. Just know that it will beep every time they press a button, so you may need to put it away at times, when your child needs to pay attention.
6. Have you heard of stinkykids.com? I just recently learned about this site and I love it. Why? Because there are not enough good role models for children today and because this company stands for doing good. “The StinkyKids motto: ‘Always Be a Leader of Good’ is a concept that we created to teach our children to make right choices, not to follow bad behavior, but be a leader of good behavior.” I love the characters and the different children depicted on every shirt. I can see my daughter falling in love with these characters and wanting to collect them all, and what would be so bad about that? You know what makes this company even better? StinkyKids.com from inception, donates 10% of it’s profits towards the fight against cancer, specifically to “Books, Bears and Bonnets, Inc.”
PS- although these suggestions were intended for kids, I believe there is a kid in all of us. Feel free to buy any of these items or use any of these ideas as gifts for adults.
