Book Review: Let’s Get Ready for Kindergarten!

The Let’s Get Ready Series of books, put out by Cedar Valley Publishing, are a great collection of introductory books for children entering each grade level. as a Pre-K teacher for 34 years, I was curious to check out the Let’s Get Ready For Kindergarten book by Linda Desimowich and Stacey Kannenberg. There are so many workbooks out there for children to practice grade appropriate skills, but this is the first one I saw which outlines in clear fashion, the necessary grade level goals and skills. The book is written in story fashion, with Mrs. Good the teacher, guiding you along the way, giving special insights on the bottom of every page. It is a book that can be read over and over again, as the child masters new areas.
As an educator I especially appreciated the Early Childhood Skills listed in the front of the book and as a parent I valued the Parent Tips in the back. Another unique aspect of the book is that the pages are laminated and a child can use dry erase markers to practice basic skills.
I also loved Let’s Get Ready For First Grade, by the same authors. As a child enters the new world of school, after early education, parents often have no clue as to what the basic skills are, that will be needed for that grade. This gives them a very clear and fun way to give their child a preview into their new grade.
These books can be used throughout the school year, and they receive this teacher’s seal of approval.
