Nominate a Caregiver for a 2011 Shire Brave Award!

We always like to pass on good stuff when we find it, and what is better then  honoring a great caregiver in your life?

The Shire Brave Awards are a new initiative of Shire plc, a global specialty biopharmaceutical company, to acknowledge ordinary people who give of themselves by caring for others in a meaningful, dedicated and selfless manner. Each recipient of a Brave Award also receives $10,000 USD.

Complete this form to share with Shire a caregiver you think is worthy of being recognized with a 2011 Brave Award!  Shire will select up to ten recipients for a 2011 Brave Award.  Nominations are open until August 31, 2011.  Winners will be announced on or about November 15, 2011.

Important Note:

A caregiver as defined by the Shire Brave Awards is a non-healthcare professional.  Doctors, nurses, hospital staff and other healthcare workers who receive compensation as part of their employment for caring for others are not eligible to be considered for a Shire Brave Award.

Who Qualifies? Any lay person who provides care to others.

This may be a friend, sibling, neighbor, parent, child, or other family member that provides a specific and dedicated level of care to an individual(s) and who is not compensated in any direct way because of their role as a caregiver.  The Brave Awards are open to eligible Nominees who are residents or citizens of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Good Luck!

  • Hi Charlayne,

This is an award sponsored by another company, I just was passing on the info to our readers. You need to click on the link to go to the nomination form. But your husband Bruce sounds amazing!

I would like to nominate my husband, Bruce, for this award. Eighteen years ago he married me thinking that I would pass away soon. The doctors at the time thought I had Lupus with a heart condition and had said I had a couple of years. Turned out to be a misdiagnosis, I had thyroid and fibromyalgia, along with chronic fatigue syndrome.

He works his job as a systems analyst full time, then comes home and cooks, does laundry, and helps take care of the house. He keeps up with my medications, helps me walk when I’m weak. He helps me up when I am sitting down and kisses me (even in public).

He never complains about how much he has to help. This last March he had an Aortic Valve replacement surgery and he fretted the entire time that he wasn’t able to help me as he usually did. It was hard for him to rest and recover because he fretted so much about me. He has recovered and is stronger now.

He is so gentle, so caring, and he has been there for me through all the doctors, operations, and such. My ex’s (I have 2) would not handle this, but Bruce is always there for me, always thinking about how he can make my life easier.
