Just noticed I wrote I'm having a "gastro swallow" test. lol What I'm having on Tuesday is the gastric emptying test where you eat the radioactive meal and are scanned.

Jeez...my brain actually used to work. :(

I had my gastric emptying test today and it was totally normal. I found myself almost hoping it would be positive so I would have something to cause my high blood sugars. I know you all understand what I mean. Not wanting to have a disease but wishing for a diagnosis to explain what's causing your problems.

If nothing else, I am eliminating things that are not the problem.

oh, i read that narcotics and opiates can slow down your stomach even more - so that could mean for us GPers that we cant have NSAIDs and narcotics - looks like most pain relief is out the window!

Well i need to have the fentanyl anyway but my dose will not be increased again...now I have Ultram as well.

NSAIDs didn't really slow my tract...they just aggravate my heartburn etc.

yeah, i heard that too...i take domperidone, and i dont take pain killers 1/2 hr before or after eating. Not sure, but i think that helps. I guess its a matter of weighing the benefits at the time, y'know?

i drink chamomile tea in the mornings sometimes, or even raspberry tea, which is for morning sickness... they are gentle on the stomach, caffine free, and at least you're getting liquids! i find that helps sometimes

Sorry to join this one so late. Don't know how I missed it.

I'm another one with the triple whammy of celiac, diabetes and gastroparesis. The diet has been one really tricky balancing act, but I manage.

The gastroparesis was diagnosed in 2003. The gastroenterologist told me I'd have to eat baby food and rice for the rest of my life, but with a lot of trial and error, I was able to figure out a better variety of foods I can (usually) tolerate.

All of the motility meds I tried had awful side effects, so my entire management regimen now consists of frequent small meals and staying upright to allow gravity to get the food through my tummy. My first meal of the day is a Boost to quell the nausea, then the next meal is the largest so I have lots of time to digest it, and the final two meals are smaller and more bland.

The worst thing about gastroparesis for me is that I cannot take pain meds. All narcotics shut my entire digestive system down.

Some foods that are considered "no no's" I can tolerate in small amounts early in the day, like very lean meat, a single bite of dark chocolate, one Splenda sweetened cola. But stuff like coffee, orange juice or peanut butter can really mess me up.

On the really bad days when I've experienced vomiting, I eliminate all fruits and veggies, even pureed or juiced ones, and focus on broths with rice noodles. If the broth stays down, then I might be able to eat an egg or two.

For morning nausea, I recommend herbal tea containing ginger. And cream of rice almost always helps me.
